story and dreamwork

dreams and the inner life

Dreams combine images, verbal, and emotional stimuli into a sometimes broken, nonsensical but often intriguing story. But what is for? Why do we dream? Many experts disagree on exactly what the purpose of our dreams might be, but as anyone who has regular dreams knows they can be ignored.

Solutions!
We can sometimes even solve problems in our sleep. Dreams allow for us to imagine unthought of ideas and concepts. Our dreaming minds' actually work through issues from our daily life while we sleep presenting alternatives and rehearsing the play of events. We can be shown a way of better coping and dealing issues in the real world.

Dreamwork
Working on our dreams can be interesting and with practice will provide us with skills to self-interpret our dreams more confidently. This is something which is best taught in a group setting, where we can engage in learning more about the many different types of dream motifs that can be experienced.

Dream Groups and Camps
The great stories of mythology were once dreamed. These were told around the camp-fire and shared as personal myths (stories). We hold weekend retreats or Dream Camps and weekly Dream Groups for those interested in taking the dream work deeper. The Dream Camps are held several times a year—enquires can be sent to storyanddreamwork@gmail.com

A Weekly Dream Group is run in Paddington and Darlinghurst. The groups are generally small, allowing us time to work on two or three dreams per session. A variety of practical techniques are used and shared in the group, but we operate from the premise that inner work is self-reflective. Using Swiss Psychiatrist C.G. Jung's metaphor, that dreams are like personal letters addressed to us, the question we ask is “Why wouldn't we read them?”

Dream Groups and Camps

We start promptly at 7.30pm and spend a short time catching up. We enjoy sharing and discussing various books and ideas on Dreamwork, before hearing the first dream. We then engage  in the a variety of techniques for explore our dreams. We conclude around 9.30pm. Your host and guide makes a moderate fee charge of to cover organisational costs, refreshments and time. Fees are: $15 casual drop-in; and advance payment of 4 sessions $45.
